We are always looking for ways to build the communities where our stores are located and we wanted to give back in a major way to an area that has offered so much to us. On May 27th, we went to Hank Aaron Field in Newark, NJ and gave the park a refreshing update!
We’ve repainted the court’s sidelines and the basketball rims, half-court got a fresh update with The Kicks Way logo, we replaced the basketball nets with brand new ones, and we even were able to place the Kicks Way logo on the backboards – not to mention the new KicksUSA signage posted on the gates. It was a long 14-hour day with the temperature reaching 92 degrees, 5 cans of paint, 14 roles of duct tape, and 5 dedicated people busting their butts on the hot asphalt. But it was well worth the sweat and sunburn!
On Saturday, May 28th, all of Newark came out to enjoy the re-opening of the KicksUSA court at Hank Aaron Field brought to you by The Kicks Way. A kids’ basketball clinic led by former NBA athlete Anthony Avent and City of Newark Parks & Recreation Program Director Obalaji Jones, started the morning strong. The event had many activities throughout the day for all to enjoy, there was a moon bounce, face painting, balloons, and free food.
The best entertainment of all being the basketball showcase that led up to the KicksUSA Philly vs. Jersey staff game, which went into triple overtime! The Philly team came out as the victors, but everyone involved was a winner.
This entire initiative would not have been possible without help from our North Jersey Marketing Rep – Ron Reyes, the City of Newark, and most of all – our supportive customers.
